Tears for Fears – Live… and then some
One of the most successful British pop duos are about to release their first-ever live album. “Songs For A Nervous Planet” is a compilation of songs from their vast backlist of super songs; all played and recorded live at the FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee in 2023. But that’s not all.
Live album 40 years in the making
It’s been two and a half years since our favorite guys released ‘The Tipping Point‘ – their seventh studio album – containing 10 then new brand-new songs. One even more fantastic than the other.
The much appraised album reached ‘Album of the Year‘ here at Latebar in 2022, but after an 18-year-long hiatus, some of us feared, that the well-conducted production would be the last we ever heard from the two. Thank God, that wasn’t the case.
For the first time ever, Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal decided to share the TFF live experience with the fans. A parade of 18 grand hits from both new and old albums were recorded at a gig in Franklin, Tennessee on 11 July 2023, and will be released on 25 October 2024 – a treasure trove for fans who’ve never had the chance to experience the band live.
Four brand new songs by Smith and Orzabal
However, as an extra bonus, follows the 18 live songs. Four new songs was announced with the album too. The first peep was released this Thursday (12 September 2024), the the song “The Girl That I Call Home” was released.
With the grandiose pompousness of monstrous hits such as “Break It Down Again” and “Sowing The Seeds” this song connects seamlessly with the sincerity in the highly underestimated old song “Listen” and the more recent “Rivers Of Mercy”.
In so many words, it makes this old blogger tremendously happy, that we can still rightfully expect Smith and Orzabal to provide us all with hand-crafted and well-written pop songs – the way songs should be crafted.
Live in Las Vegas 2024
So far no more ‘Tipping Point’-gigs has been announced. But three ‘Nervous Planet’-shows is now listed for Las Vegas, Nevada, in late October and beginning of November this year. Whether this will mark the start of another World Tour is not yet clear.
The live album “Songs For A Nervous Planet” will be released on 25 October 2024 – including the four new songs: “The Girl That I Call Home”, “Say Goodbye To Mum And Dad”, “Emily Said” and “Astronaut”.
At Latebar we will be counting the days 🙂
